While it would quite clearly be possible to rewrite the rules, and things like the spell descriptions, so that the text follows something far more like the 3rdEd style, the text has where possible been left alone. The minimal changes made are to remove text made completely redundant by the initial spell description lines, to correct the few mistakes, and to allow for changes in rules mechanics between 2ndEd and 3rdEd, which are mainly to do with distance and time.
As far as possible things have been left unchanged, including trying to make spell casting times still match the relative amount of combat time. For example, a 5 round casting-time spell was just about possible to cast in 2ndEd combat, but a strict conversion would make it take 5 minutes to cast, almost impossible in 3rdEd combat, so the casting-time stays as 5 rounds, i.e. 30 seconds.
The main reason for this approach is to attempt to minimise the risk of changing the meaning of the Spelljamming rules, which it would be very difficult to avoid doing if the text was rewritten in a more 3rdEd style. Several people would likely produce several versions of the text, and each claim that their text was closest to the original meaning of the Spelljamming rules, as they understood them. The only way to avoid this seemed to be to leave the text as alone as possible.
